In reaction to the request for implementing an antique style elevator in a monumental mansion on the famous canals of Amsterdam (a so called Grachtenpand), XEL has composed a completely custom elevator design.
By working with authentic antique techniques and materials such as handcrafted blacksmith works and wooden details, and by working with antique style attributes such as lighting and control buttons, the design can completely be adapted to the wishes of the mansion’s owner.
Challenges to overcome
In addition, for the design of this solution, specific attention was to be paid to the minimal space that was available for the elevator and the possibility to integrate this system into the existing construction. Doing so, XEL’s team has, among other details, found a way to integrate authentic wooden construction beams into the elevator’s shaft construction.
